COURSE CERTIFICATION

Picture
What are you moving to? You’ve decided that a standardized or externally directed advanced curriculum is not meeting your community’s needs for a mission-aligned curriculum. Teachers and administrators are excited about the power of developing a program that aligns the needs of advanced learners with the school’s mission and the talents and intellectual passions of their faculty.

At the heart of our advanced independent curriculum certification is our belief that a school’s own mission and values, the expertise of its own faculty, and the needs and aspirations of its own students must and should be the driving forces in the development of all its learning programs. One Schoolhouse course certification for Advanced Independent Curriculum (AIC) provides a tool and a process for creating learning experiences that embody and express the school’s essential aims as it seeks to meet the needs of ambitious and curious learners.

What is course certification? One Schoolhouse course certification is a structured process in which a school submits their case that a particular course or class meets the One Schoolhouse standards for Advanced Independent Curriculum. The certification process involves a protocol for review and reflection by the school and the teacher(s) and is considered complete only after each step has been fulfilled per the tool and guidelines we provide.

One Schoolhouse will examine the submitted materials to determine alignment to the principles and standards of advanced independent curriculum. The school’s adherence to the process is key to certification. We will review the submission and either issue a certificate or offer feedback on necessary adjustments. One Schoolhouse certification attests that the course or class has been developed in accordance with our tool and process for Advanced Independent Curriculum coursework.

What do we receive when our course is certified?
You receive a certificate, permission to use the copyrighted phrase Advanced Independent Curriculum in your materials and on your website, and editable templates that can be shared within your community and external parties.
What do we get when a submitted course is not yet ready for certification?
You will receive feedback and suggested resources for bringing your course into compliance. You can submit your course a second time with no additional fees. Resubmissions beyond the initial two will incur a $200 processing fee.
Can our school seek certification for a course that is also already in compliance with another organization?
Yes, absolutely.
If we have a change in faculty, do we need to recertify the course?
The answer to this question depends on circumstances. Contact us for assistance.
How long does certification last?
We have a 3-year cycle for a course that is currently being taught. Certification of a proposed course that has never been taught is for one year, with a full certification (for 3 years) after one year of the course being taught.
How long does the review process take?
School leaders should plan to spend several months preparing a new course for certification. The review process at One Schoolhouse takes approximately two weeks to complete from the date of submission. Contact us for more information with your specific dates.
How much does certification cost?
See chart above.
How should a school name or designate certified courses?
A school can title or designate a certified course using its own system for course nomenclature, and are free to append Certified Advanced Independent Curriculum(TM) to that course.
